Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romance film credited as being one of the most viewed films of all time. In the first place produced on stage and written by Eleanor Bergstein. In 2004 the stage adaptation of Dirty Dancing opened in Australia. The tale details the time that a teenage girl matures into womanhood through a relationship with a dance teacher on a family holiday. About a 3rd of the film involves dance scenes.

Originally a low budget film, Dirty Dancing has become a major box office sensation. As of 2007, it has earned million dollars internationally. It was the first film to sell over a million copies on home video. The Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated two platinum albums and many singles.
