Sandy and Danny spend a summer in passion, but think they will never meet again. That is until Sandy out of the blue joins Danny's high school to find that he is not precisely how she recollects him. Most celebrated for the 1979 film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease has become an established family darling, not least for its songs which include Summer Lovin', Hopelessly Devoted To You and, of course, Greased Lightning.

Grease is a musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey about the way rock and roll altered American sexuality and culture during the moment when America took its first provisional steps out of the conformity of sexual and social oppression in the 1950s and toward the individualism and sexual freedom of the 1960s. Grease embodies the very real life cultural friction in its two leading parts; with Sandy as the 50's and Danny 60's. The show takes its name from the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as the greasers. The musical, which is set in 1959 in fictional Rydell High in Chicago, follows ten working-class youngsters as they find their way through the complexities of sexuality, cars and drive-ins. The score is a highly genuine recreation of early, rock and roll, conjuring up early groups including Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Huey "Piano" Smith, Paul Anka, The Diamonds, The Tea Queens, The Cadillacs and many more. Since its early Broadway shows.

The show tackles such social issues as adolescent pregnancy and gang violence; its themes include love, friendship, teenage uprising, sexual exploration during adolescence and, to some extent, class consciousness/class conflict.

The show became the longest-running Broadway musical in history, until it was beaten by A Chorus Line, and went on to become a West End hit, a hugely prosperous film, a best-selling 1994 Broadway revival, and a raw material of regional theatre, summer stock, community theatre, and high school and middle school drama groups.
